Yacht Crew Recruitment
International Search and Independent Assessment of Crew for Private and Charter Yachts
Very Important Personnel recruits thoroughly vetted crew for private yachts and superyachts, from captains and heads of department to seasonal and temporary professionals.
We do not simply forward CVs. We develop a position profile tailored to the vessel, identify candidates across the open and confidential markets, assess their proven experience, verify references and conduct a preliminary review of documentation. We then coordinate the successful crew member’s joining process.
Each search reflects the yacht’s type and size, private or charter operation, cruising itinerary, season, rotation schedule, crew structure, service standards and the owner’s confidentiality requirements.
Not Access to a CV Database, but a Well-Founded Appointment Decision
In yacht crew recruitment, the cost of a poor appointment can far exceed the recruitment fee. An unsuitable hire may lead to turnover, disrupted seasonal preparations, weakened operational control, service failures and the disclosure of confidential information.
Our role is to reduce uncertainty before an appointment is made and ensure that the selected candidate is ready to join the vessel.
The Client Receives
- A select shortlist of suitable candidates for final consideration rather than a volume of applications.
- A verified employment and sea-service history.
- An assessment of professional capabilities.
- Reference verification and confirmation of actual responsibilities.
- A preliminary review of documents and their validity periods.
- A comparative dossier outlining risks and the consultant’s conclusions.
- Coordination of the offer, joining arrangements and the first months of employment.
Who We Recruit Crew For
We work with yacht owners and their authorised representatives, family offices, captains, yacht managers, management companies, charter brokers, shipyards and refit project directors.
Private Owners
We provide an independent assessment of captains and key crew members, help define the optimal team structure, benchmark remuneration and reduce reliance on recommendations from a single source.
Family Offices and Owners’ Representatives
We provide discreet search services, an evidence-based shortlist, workforce intelligence and clear reporting to support informed appointment decisions.
Captains
We manage market search, initial screening, document and reference checks, interview coordination and succession-pool development. The final selection always remains with the captain and owner.
Yacht Management Companies
We operate as an external or white-label recruitment function: establishing consistent assessment standards, evaluating finalists, supporting ongoing vacancies and building a talent reserve for urgent replacements.
Private and Charter Yachts
We recruit permanent, rotational, seasonal, temporary and relief crew, taking into account service expectations, guest profiles and each candidate’s confirmed readiness to join.
How We Can Assist
International Crew Search
We provide an end-to-end recruitment service for permanent, rotational, seasonal and temporary professionals. For senior or highly specialised appointments, we use executive search, discreet market mapping and trusted professional referrals.
Confidential Replacement
We conduct discreet searches without prematurely disclosing the owner’s identity, the yacht’s name or sensitive position details. We control access to information, prepare a reserve shortlist and develop a structured handover plan.
Complete Crew Formation
We design the structure and assemble the team in stages for a new yacht, a newly acquired or refitted vessel, a return to operation, a change of captain, a transition between private and charter use or the start of a new season.
Seasonal Crew
We recruit seasonal and delivery crew, shipyard-period personnel and additional professionals for charters, private events and guest visits.
Existing Crew Assessment
We conduct a comprehensive crew review, examining role allocation, workload, capability gaps, causes of turnover, team dynamics and staffing risks ahead of the season.

Our Recruitment Process
1. Defining the Requirement
We establish the yacht’s type and size, operating format, cruising area, schedule and rotation, joining date, team structure, accommodation conditions, remuneration, documentation requirements and confidentiality expectations.
If the responsibilities have not yet been finalised, we first develop the position profile, defining the duties, assessment criteria and remuneration benchmarks. A service agreement is concluded before the search begins.
2. Open and Confidential Market Search
We use an international professional network, our own talent reserve, direct search, referrals from captains and heads of department, specialist communities and partner crew agencies.
Rather than duplicating the response from public job platforms, we complement it with qualified candidates who are difficult to reach through conventional vacancy advertising.
3. Structured Assessment
We assess relevant experience, actual responsibilities, the sizes and types of previous yachts, professional skills, English proficiency, motivation, communication style, availability and suitability for the vessel’s working environment and service culture.
Role-specific criteria and professional assignments are used for different appointments.
4. Comprehensive Due Diligence
With the candidate’s consent, we examine employment and sea-service history, verify references, confirm reasons for leaving, review declared time at sea and validate key professional information.
We conduct a preliminary review of the passport, seafarer’s identity document, medical certificate, mandatory maritime training certificates, certificate of competency, relevant endorsements, specialist certificates, visa readiness and document expiry dates.
Final confirmation that the documents are acceptable remains the responsibility of the captain, yacht manager, flag-state administration or appointed maritime specialist.
5. Shortlist and Candidate Dossiers
The client receives more than a CV. Each shortlisted professional is presented with a structured candidate dossier:
- Employment and sea-service history.
- Experience aboard private and charter yachts.
- Types and sizes of vessels.
- Actual responsibilities.
- Interview and professional-assessment results.
- Availability and contractual expectations.
- Document status.
- Reference report.
- Identified limitations or concerns.
- Consultant’s conclusions.
6. Offer and Joining the Yacht
We coordinate the terms, date and place of joining, document readiness, travel and cabin arrangements, uniform and equipment requirements, handover procedures and probationary-period criteria.
7. Onboarding
Upon request, we support the appointed crew member after joining through structured onboarding and review meetings during the first 30, 60 and 90 days. This helps identify expectation gaps early, clarify responsibilities and reduce the risk of premature departure.
Engagement Options
Independent Crew Assessment
For owners, family offices and yacht managers who have identified candidates independently and require an impartial assessment of the finalists.
We conduct structured interviews, review employment history and professional capabilities, verify references and documentation, assess risks and provide a comparative evaluation.
Extended Search
The client retains their own selection process while we cover the parts of the market they cannot readily reach: passive candidates, direct-search prospects, rare specialisations, confidential referrals and international talent pools.
Full Crew Search
We manage the entire assignment, from developing the position profile and mapping the market to presenting the shortlist, conducting due diligence, coordinating the offer and arranging the successful candidate’s joining process.
Yacht Leadership Search
We conduct in-depth searches for captains, chief engineers, chief officers, heads of interior, chief stewardesses and owners’ representatives. This service is designed for mission-critical and highly confidential appointments.
Complete Crew Formation
We define the team structure and headcount, establish the order of appointments, recruit heads of department and other specialists, and coordinate joining, onboarding and the commencement of operations as one cohesive team.
Confidentiality to Private-Service Standards
Information concerning the owner, family, children, yacht, location, future itineraries, guests and personal preferences is disclosed strictly on a need-to-know basis and only at the agreed stage of the process.
The yacht’s name and the owner’s identity may remain undisclosed during initial contact. Access to documentation and assessment results is restricted, while information is shared with external specialists only as part of an agreed procedure.
We also assess candidates’ approach to discretion, including their respect for professional boundaries, handling of confidential information and publicly available online activity, within the limits permitted by law.
What the Owner or Authorised Representative Receives
Depending on the engagement, the client may receive:
- A shortlist of suitable candidates.
- Individual candidate dossiers.
- A reference and sea-service verification report.
- A document-verification checklist.
- An opinion from a relevant specialist.
The depth of the assignment depends on the selected service format and the seniority and sensitivity of the appointment.
A Crew Prepared for the Requirements of Your Yacht
We do not promise abstract “perfect compatibility”, nor do we treat references as an absolute guarantee. Our role is to professionally reduce recruitment risk, provide the owner with a well-founded basis for the appointment and ensure a controlled joining process.
The result is not a volume of CVs, but a vetted shortlist, transparent assessment and a crew prepared for safe operations, the season ahead and the owner’s exacting standards.
